The Canfield Police Department is investigating the shooting of an 18-year-old man that occurred at 238 W. Main St. in the city on Jan. 10 at approximately 7:30 p.m. At this time, the man is in stable condition after having been shot in the right upper torso.
According to police, the call originally came in as a medical call for a male that had been struck by a bottle rocket. The female caller advised that the incident occurred inside of her residence, with the victim subsequently driven to a local emergency room by her son and his friend. Officers and medical personnel arrived at the residence to discover the man was indeed transported to a local emergency room prior to their arrival.
At approximately 8:50 p.m., Canfield PD received a phone call from Youngstown Police that the victim was being treated for a gunshot wound received at the West Main Street address. While at the Austintown emergency room, the victim and witnesses advised that they had been robbed in Youngstown. YPD determined there was no robbery and that the shooting had actually occurred within the city of Canfield.
Police said a handgun was recovered in conjunction with the incident. After consulting with the Mahoning County Prosecutor's office, one 18-year-old man has been charged with felonious assault and tampering with evidence. A 17-year-old man has been referred to Juvenile Court for complicity to felonious assault and tampering with evidence. A 52-year-old woman has been charged with tampering with evidence. Further charges are pending on additional suspects, according to police.
