Trustees approve sewer project for Pinecrest

December 14, 2011
By J.T. Whitehouse
Austintown Township Trustees had several items on the agenda as the end of the year and the final meeting is closing in.

Trustees first approved a motion on Monday night authorizing a township official to sign and execute contracts for the Pinecrest Avenue Storm Water Improvement Phase I. According to township administrator Mike Dockry, the project should begin after fall of 2012.

The Phase I project calls for adding to the existing storm sewer and placing nine catch basins in the line.

“The intent is to get water off of Pinecrest Avenue as quickly as possible,” Dockry said.

He said the residents on the street have had sanitary sewer backups into their homes. Dockry said the sanitary sewer covers are in the street and in heavy storms, the storm sewers have not taken the water away fast enough, causing street ponding and overflow into the sanitary line, and eventually into the home. With the improvements and additions in phase I, the hope is there will be no more ponding.

On another issue, trustees approved a motion to consider the installation of no parking signs on Huntmere Avenue. It would prohibit parking at all times on the fire hydrant side of the street and would ban parking on the other side between the hours of 2 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Trustees also passed a motion to approve Monroe Excavating, Inc. to install a sanitary sewer lateral line at Fire Station 1 on Ohio 46. The new line would connect to the new seweer main installed across the street from the fire station. The project low bid from Monroe Excavating came in at $7,936.50. The project will bring the fire station into EPA compliance.
