Canfield musicians honored to play at OMEA conference

The Ohio Music Education Association District 5 held its annual Fall Conference on Nov. 19, at Henry H. Stambaugh Auditorium in Youngstown. Highlighting the conference were the performances of the OMEA District 5 Middle School and High School Honors Bands.

Band directors from across Ashtabula, Mahoning, and Trumbull counties submitted hundreds of nominations and the Canfield Band Department was honored with the selection of four middle school band members and six high school band members to perform with these prestigious ensembles.

The OMEA District 5 Middle School Honors Band was directed by conductor Nancy Moore. Canfield Middle School band members who participated were Peter Crescimanno on clarinet, Olivia Slater on trumpet, and Alexis Jones on tuba.

The High School Honors Band was conducted by Dr. Shelley Jagow,

from Wright State University. Canfield High School Band members who participated were Alicia Smith on oboe, Michael Barkett on trumpet, Gabrielle Brant on French horn, Jacob Powell on euphonium, and

Aaron Graneto on percussion.

Smith was selected to perform with this prestigious group for the fourth straight year.
