Varsity skaters open season with first win

Roger Geiser broke the Ohio High School Athletic Association career saves record in a 1-0 shut out over Mentor, stopping all 47 shots he faced. Geiser would face 49 in the second game of the day stopping 48 in a 1-0 loss to tournament winner Avon High School. Geiser's career total to date is 2,104 surpassing the previous mark set by Liam Robinson of Cleveland Heights (2006-2010) of 2,028.

Geiser will be honored prior to the Canfield versus CVCA game at the Ice Zone in Boardman at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 7.

Sean Meditz scored in the second period to give the Canfield Cardinals their first victory of the season (1-3).

The varsity squad went on to fall to Avon twice during the tournament.

The JV squad won twice over Mentor, and gave up one game in the tournament.

The Cardinals will continue play next weekend with games at Westlake on Saturday and open Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League play Sunday, Dec. 4 at Aurora.
