He served two years in the United States Army SHAPE Headquarters in Paris, France. Bo graduated from Bethany College and served at the Austintown Local School District for 30 years, retiring in 1984 as superintendent. After retirement, he was a salesman for Kings Company. He was a member of the Mahoning United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.
He and his wife Barbara were “snow angels” and spent their winters in Naples, Fla. In Naples, he belonged to the East Naples United Methodist Church and sang in its choir. He was also the president of the Foxfire Community Association and the 18 Hole Men’s Golf Club.
In Austintown, Bo was a member of the Austintown Kiwanis, the Austintown Optimist Club, the Austintown Historical Association and the Austintown Community Council, being inducted into its Hall of Fame in 1983. Bo was also a member of Phi Delta Kappa and a Mason.
Bo will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Barbara Jamison, whom he married June 14, 1958, and their two children: Douglas James (Wendy) Valot of Houston, and their children, Ben and Rachel; and Linda Sue (Darrell) Klotz of Copley and their daughter Katelyn.
Besides his parents, Bo is preceded in death by two sisters, Janice Taipale and Gerry Orr, and a brother, Richard Valot.
His faith in Christ and love for family and friends is everlasting.
