George Brainard of Austintown and Don VanMeter of North Jackson call for the firing of muskets at Lake Park Cemetery in Boardman last Friday as a salute to veterans buried there. The re-enactors gave a 21-gun salute with Jim Mills of Austintown, Kellie Wright of Leetonia, Jeremy Beeson of Austintown, and Dallas Wright of Leetonia firing as John Aaron of Boardman provides the drum roll. The ceremony was first organized by Steffon Wydell Jones and Dave Frank in November 1999 and has commemorated around 50 American veterans from various wars. This year's special honors were given to William Sheldon, a veteran of World War II and Forgotten Heroes' coordinator, Ron Novak's grandfather. Another special honor was given to Nicholas V. Cascarelli, a veteran on the Korean War.
