October 26, 2011

The Poland eighth-grade football team defeated Canfield 20-8 to win the All American League Championship. Poland went 7-1 on the year with their only loss coming from Austintown Middle's last-minute touchdown pass.

The entire game was played during a rain storm and Poland running backs Anthony Audi and Dylan Garver controlled the ground game while quarterback Nick Buccieri was involved in all three of Poland's touchdowns. He connected to Garver on a 40-yard TD pass, a screen pass to Tyler Smith resulting in a touchdown and scored one rushing TD on a quarterback boot. Defensive standouts included Matt Duran with a fumble recovery; linemen Ethan Moncilivich, Trey Ellis and Joe Bonirigo; linebackers Audi, Austin Connley and Garver. Buccieri also had three key pass deflections from his safety position.
