The dreaded enter downtown

October 27, 2011
By Kathleen Palumbo
The all-too-familiar absent stare, gruesome, gaping wounds, and hardened gait made it obvious what was happening. Yes, zombies were on the loose, catatonically making their way across the Mahoning Avenue Bridge into downtown Youngstown.

On Saturday, Oct. 22, those walking among the living dead hobbled through town, later mingling with the human life in Youngstown-area facilities as they participated in the second annual Zombie Crawl.

Beginning hours earlier, participants gathered at both Anthony’s on The River, and Youngstown’s Oakhill Cemetery, where artists assisted in preparing the “dead” for the increasing popular event. At 6:45, with a brave police escort, the zombies dragged themselves along the path, many later entering participating venues, hopefully, with a taste for more than their next victim.

Ahhh, what could be sweeter than a little mother/daughter bonding time spent preparing to join the walking dead? Kim Little and Shannon Little of Austintown find that with a little time and effort, everyone can be equally chilling. The two were preparing for the annual Zombie Crawl through downtown Youngstown, Oct. 22.
