Zombie dancers have been practicing since late August and are ready to entertain Youngstown in the performance of Michael Jackson's "Thriller!" beginning at 10 a.m. sharp Saturday at the B&O Restaurant.
Every year, volunteers from around the world organize a Thrill the World event in their area to raise money for a local charity. Each event is videotaped, and every zombie dancer joins in the official count in an attempt to set a world record for the Largest Simultaneous Thriller Dance in multiple locations.
The first event began in 2006, and the current record was set on Oct. 24 and 25, 2009, with 22,596 people dancing in 264 cities representing 33 countries.
This is the 2nd year Youngstown is participating in the event. Dancer registration benefits Canine Crusaders, a local 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to helping dogs on death row at the Mahoning County Dog Pound.
On Thriller Day, spectators are asked to bring a canned or non-perishable food item, which will benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley.
Volunteers are needed to help with food donation transport, set up and tear down on Oct. 29. Please see thrilltheworldyoungstown.com to learn more, or contact event organizer, Paulina at CanineCrusader@yahoo.com.
