Canfield High School senior Gabrielle Brant and junior Allison Pavlansky won the OHSAA NE Ohio District Division I Girls' Tennis Tournament doubles title in competition held recently at Oberlin College.
On Oct. 15, they defeated Mitsuki Fukamachi and Jamie Vizelman of Mayfield, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), in their District semifinal match. In the subsequent championship round, they beat Michelle Djohan and Julia Dunbar of Westlake, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0. Having already qualified on Thursday for this week's State Tennis Tournament in Columbus, their victories added to their honors earned this year and improved their seeding for next week. Competition is set to begin next Friday morning, Oct. 21 at the Ohio State University Outdoor varsity tennis courts (formerly Stickney Tennis Center).
• Boys Soccer
On Saturday evening, the Canfield Cardinals boys soccer team lost to the Marlington Dukes, 1-0. The lone goal of the evening was scored by Marlington's Shane Kaplan. For the evening Canfield had 16 shots while Marlington had 10 shots. Canfield goalie Mike Wittman had six saves and Marlington goalie Mike McDermott had six saves. The JV teams tied, 4-4.
