Glenwood Middle School Sports Report

• Volleyball

The BGMS eighth-grade volleyball team finished their season by defeating Center Middle, 25-20, 25-17. Katie Platt had 12 aces and two digs. Krista Johnson had seven aces, five kills and one dig. Elli Hritz had five aces, three kills and three digs. Marisa Hanna had three digs. Caitlynn Conner added two kills. They posted a 16-1 record with an impressive two-year record of 29-3.

The seventh-grade team also defeated Center, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22. Faith Clear had four aces and three kills. Nicolette Martino had three aces, three assists and one kill. Charlotte Voytko had five assists. Taylor Halowell had four kills and one ace. Alexis Stutz added two aces and two kills. They finished their season with a 3-14 record.

The eighth-grade team defeated Youngstown Christian on Oct. 12 by scores of 25-7 and 25-8. Platt had 12 aces and six assists. Johnson posted eight aces and four kills. Hritz had three aces, one kill, and one dig. The win brought the girls' record to 15-1.

The seventh-grade girls lost to Youngstown Christian, 18-25 and 20-25. Katelyn Snyder had four aces and one kill. Martino had four aces and one assist. Voytko had four assists and Clear had two aces and two kills. The seventh grade girls are now 2-14.

• Cross Country

The BGMS cross country team competed in the middle school championships at McDonald on Oct. 12. The scorers for the girls team included Taylor Broll, Jessica Fowler, Allison Janak, Logan Mitchell, Leanna Laughlin, and Lauren Pavlansky. Emily Campana, Crystal Pietz and Kayla Welton were also able to conquer Bill Goat Hill and with her best performance of the season, Elly Larrier pulled off a strong finish to place second as the middle school champion runner-up.

The boys cross country team also wrapped up their season at McDonald. Scoring for the boys were Matt Perham, Dylan Ball, Brett Brunko, Nathaniel Ams and Nick Cessna. The remaining boys all came in with a strong finish. Connor Kochansky, Kyle Crawford, Michael Mitchum, Jared Whitford, and Matt Pellone all finished within a minute of each other, coming in under 16 minutes.

• Football

Lynn Bowden opened last week’s football game against St. Christine's with a 65-yard touchdown run followed by a Jamison Lytle two-point conversion to put the Spartans up 8-0. Bowden next scored on a 29-yard run with Joe Voytko adding the two-point conversion. Preston Stitt then scored on an 11-yard run with Devin Curd adding the two-pointer to put BGMS up 24-0 at the end of the first quarter. Stitt next threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Tim Captain and Robert Rhodes made the two-point conversion to put the Spartans up 32-0 at the half. The Spartans went on to win 32-0 and improve to 7-0 on the season.

The team ends their season against Boardman Center Middle in the annual Spartan Bowl, at 7 p.m. Saturday at Spartan Stadium.
