Innovative teacher earns regional accolades

Poland Middle School teacher Haley Schaffer will be honored Oct. 13 as Innovative Teacher of the Year by the Eastern Ohio P-16 Partnership for Education at its second annual Excellence in Education Celebrating our Schools luncheon at Mahoning County Career and Technical Center.

More than 100 building principals throughout Ashtabula, Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties will be recognized for achieving Excellent or Excellent with Distinction on the Ohio Report Card.

In addition, Poland McKinley Elementary will be one of the schools recognized for moving up two levels on the 2010 Ohio Report Card.

Speaker for the event is Dr. Michelle Scott Taylor, chief program officer at College Now, Greater Cleveland. Prior to joining College Now, Taylor spent much of her professional career in a myriad of functional areas at the University of Pittsburgh and John Carroll University. Dr. Taylor’s professional and research interests include: cultural competency development, program evaluation, organizational development and organizational learning in higher education and non-profit organizations.

The Eastern Ohio P-16 Partnership for Education is a coalition of educators, businesspersons, and civic and nonpro?t leaders from Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana and Ashtabula counties dedicated to fostering significantly better outcomes for students at each educational level.
