Children’s book illustrators draw a happy crowd

October 13, 2011
By Kathleen Palumbo
It was a celebration of art and music as illustrators Jeanette and Christopher Canyon visited students at Dobbins Elementary on Friday, Oct. 7, offering their program to promote the joys of reading, literature, and the arts.

Jeanette’s award-winning books, which include "Over in the Ocean," "City Beats," and "Over in the Jungle," feature relief sculptures made with polymer clay. Christopher, also a celebrated singer, guitarist and performer, has recreated the songs of the late John Denver into children’s literary works, such as "Take Me Home Country Roads," "Sunshine on my Shoulder," and "Grandma’s Feather Bed."

“Jeanette and Christopher Canyon truly inspired our students with their animated presentation,” said Dobbins Elementary Principal Cheryl Borovitcky, who added that the assembly was enjoyed by students and staff alike.
