Austintown Sports Notes

• VARSITY VOLLEYBALL

The Austintown Fitch volleyball team defeated Warren Harding in a best of three matchup on Sept. 6. The matches were 25-12, 25-7 and 25-14 for the Falcons. Fitch’s leading scorer was Tori Wise with 11 points and nine aces. Leading attackers were Sam Koniowsky and Gabi Gessler with 11 attempts and five kills. Leading setter was Tori Wise with 21 attempts and 11 assists. Leading defender was Alana Callahan with eight serve receptions and six digs. Leading blocker was Jai’leei Letlow with one block. The Fitch girls are now at 1-2 overall and 0-1 in league play.

The Fitch JV girls also won the meeting with Harding after posting games of 25-11 and 25-12. Taylor Herman had six kills, Jocelyn Hykes seven aces (11 total points), and Cali Mikovich, five digs.

• GIRLS TENNIS

Fitch fell to Mooney 0-5 in girls tennis last week. In singles action: Nicolette Arnoto of Mooney defeated Fitch’s Breanna Barto 6-0, 6-0; Kacey Haggerty from Mooney defeated Sarah Kupas 6-0, 6-0; and Jordan Stefeko defeated Katie Klepec 6-1, 7-5. In doubles action: Mooney’s Dominique Cicchi and Jamie DiDomenico defeated Nicole Wenick and Ashley Hanuschak 6-0, 7-5; and Gianna Parella and Lexie Kleeh of Mooney defeated Fitch’s Angela Murphy and Emily Wirtz 6-2, 6-1.

• GIRLS SOCCER

Fitch's girls soccer team beat Green High School 2-1 on Sept. 3. Goals were scored by Emily Durina and Meghan Shonce. In JV action, Fitch dropped the contest, 2-1, with their lone goal scored by Andrea Precurato.

On Sept. 7, the varsity team beat Poland, 3-1. Goals came from Meghan Shonce, assisted by Lauren Paolucci; Jayme Ritchie, assisted by Lauren Bower; and Emily Durina, assisted by Lauren Bower.

The varsity squad beat Hubbard, 2-0, on Sept. 12 to take their record to 4-2-0. Both goals were scored by Lauren Bower with assistance from Elizabeth Mosier and Kimmy Muccio. The team is coached by Tex Martin.

The JV team also beat Hubbard, 2-0, with goals from Jaclyn Choma and Nicole Granger.
