Nominees have been announced for the 2011 Valley Legacy Awards, now in its seventh year. The annual event honors civic-minded seniors and senior advocates for their contributions to the Mahoning Valley. The 21 nominees will be recognized at a luncheon where Valley Legacy Awards will be presented to three Outstanding Seniors and two Outstanding Advocate for Seniors.
Those nominated by members of the community include, for Outstanding seniors: Carol Bovee, Girard; Carren Chamberlin, New Waterford; Marjorie Dangaran, Warren; Bill Farragher, Canfield; Pete Gabriel, Boardman; Carol Jean Goddard, West Farmington; Zoa Lykins, Niles; Gretchen Keefer Reed, Girard; Donna J. Rois, RN, Poland; Shirley Stryffeler, Columbiana; Mary Theis, Warren; Richard Thompson, Warren; and Jeanne Deibel Tyler, Girard.
For Outstanding Advocate for Seniors, nominees are: Sarah Campbell, North Jackson; Kathy Gordon, Hospice of the Valley; Leanna Hartsough, Canfield; Carol Hitchcock, Home Instead Senior Care; Sam Kooperman, Jewish Federation of Youngstown; Charles Rupert, ClareBridge Austintown; Sisters of Humility, Villa Maria, Pa.; and Dr. Thomas Timko, Prima Health Care, Columbiana.
The Valley Legacy Awards Luncheon will be held Oct. 19, at Avion on the Water, Boardman.
