Boys soccer team is off to strong start

The varsity team opened the season at home with a 4-3 victory over Poland High School. Sophomore Luke Marsco scored the first goal of the season after following a block by the Poland goalkeeper. Senior Christian Silvestri assisted on a goal by senior Matt Horvatich, who then assisted senior Nico Graziani's goal giving BHS a 3-1 lead at the half. Junior Nico DiIanni tallied the final school from a second assist by Silvestri. Junior Anthony Calautti had eight saves as keeper.

The JV team also defeated the Bulldogs by a score of 5-0 led by two goals from sophomore Sam Mathey and one each from freshmen Anthony Pallante, Zach Fryda and Mohammed Ali. Freshman Brian Fryda tallied three saves in the nets.

The Spartans went on the road to Akron Hoban and lost a hard-fought game 2-0 to the Black Knights. Calautti had six saves in the nets. 

The JV team also lost to Hoban by a 2-1 score. Junior Mark D'Eramo had the lone Spartan goal while Brian Fryda registered six saves.

On Tuesday, the Spartans opened Federal League play at North Canton Hoover. After trailling 1-0 throughout most of the first half, Silvestri scored off an assist from Horvatich. Marsco provided the winning goal while Calautti had five saves.

The JV team defeated the Vikings 1-0 thanks to a goal by Pallante who was assisted by Mathey. Brian Fryda had six saves to secure his second shutout of the season.
