Poland 4-Hers ready to hog the show

September 1, 2011
By J.T. Whitehouse
What do Poland McKinley sixth-graders Angela Centofanti, Natalie DelSignore and Allison Ginty have in common? They each have a 4-H pig entered in the junior fair this week.

Centofanti has a pig named Lilly, who is a Bluebud-Yorkshire mix. DelSignore has a pure Bluebud named Wiggles, and Ginty has a Hampshire named Gracie.

All three girls have raised their pigs as 4-H projects. The pigs are less than a year old, but are larger than the average dog.

At the fair, the girls will be showing their pigs and will have to parade them in the colosseum on Thursday. That show is actually an auction where the pigs will be sold.

“They always start the bidding at a dollar a pound,” Centofanti said. “We stay in the ring while the auction takes place.”

The girls stand to make some money off their project, which Centofanti said will be placed aside for college.
