John Pariza of Boardman, commander of the Korean War Veterans, Chapter 137, places the American flags into a display in front of his organization's assigned tent space near the Veteran’s Log Cabin on the fairground’s west end. Pariza works hard to help honor veterans. Last year, he was named Veteran of the Year by the United Veterans’ Council during its 70th annual banquet at Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
Marine Corps League member Alan Kozak of Boardman was working up to the last minute on Tuesday as he prepared the military tent for his organization’s display. “I’ll be here every day of the fair, all day long,” Kozak said in true Marine spirit.
Past AMVETS National Commander J.P. Brown III of Boardman, gets ready to put up his organization’s banner at the Veterans Cabin on the west end of the fairgrounds. Brown, who oversees the military displays, said this year there will be a 50 mm machine gun and sandbag bunker that kids can take photos in and see what it was like for soldiers as far back as World War II.
