Lady Spartans shine at Panerathon 2011

August 30, 2011
By Jim McCreary
The Boardman High School Lady Spartans Soccer team, along with first-year assistant coach Mariah Snyder and many of the team’s family members participated in the 2nd Annual Panerathon held in downtown Youngstown on Sunday, Aug. 28. This is the team’s second year in the Panerathon.

Last season, the girls held a Breast Cancer Awareness game where they took donations to play in honor/memory of someone touched by breast cancer. The money raised from the donations along with money raised from game day raffles was presented to Dr. Rashid Abdu during the groundbreaking of the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center last October.

The Lady Spartans will again hold a Breast Cancer Awareness game on Monday, Oct. 10 and all money raised will be given to Dr. Abdu at the grand opening of the Breast Care Center in November. Dr. Abdu praised the team on Sunday for their outstanding public service and said he looks forward to seeing them at the grand opening.

Dr. Abdu concluded by stating, “The picture of this team standing in the rain last Oct. 4, has been framed and will hang in the center, with all of the girls names at the bottom.”
