* Dorothy Bowers Collins of Boardman graduated with a doctorate in education from Capella University in Minneapolis. A 1984 graduate of Youngstown East High School, she earned her bachelor of science and master of science degrees in education from Youngstown State University. Bowers Collins is the director of Student Support Services/Academic Advising and an adjunct instructor at Eastern Gateway Community College. She is the first and only female athlete at YSU to have her uniform retired and is the all-time leading women’s basketball scorer, with 2,324 points. Bowers Collins lives in Boardman with her husband David and two children, Doriyon and David. She is the daughter of Ada Bowers Hill and the late Tyrone Moore.

* Dana Matz, a recent graduate of Boardman High School, received a scholarship from the Independent Insurance Agents of Mahoning County. She earned a 3.77 GPA, lettered four years in golf and wrestling, and was a member of the Boardman Orchestra, Wrestlettes and National Honor Society. She will attend Florida State University with a major in biochemistry.
