Lady golfers take early wins

Returning lettermen for the Poland Bulldog girls golf team hit the links Monday, Aug. 8 to place second at the the Massilon Jackson Earlybird Tournament at the Hills and Dales Course in Canton.

This year's team includes seniors Maria Mancini, Giana DiBenedetto and Chrisitine Bilas, along with sophomores Melinda Hannon and Rachel Sines. Rounding out the squad are juniors Rachel Jeswald, Anna Hagendorn and Julie Morentello.

Monday (Aug. 8) the team placed second at the Massilon Jackson Earlybird Tournament at the Hills and Dales Course in Canton Massillio Jackson took the event title with a 318 and Poland was second in the field of teams with a 334.

Poland scored a 334, just shy of the winning 318 brought in by winners Massillon Jackson, where five players play and four scores count for 18 holes. Scoring for Poland were Mancini, 77; DiBenedetto, 79; Bilas, 89; and Sines, 89.

On Tuesday, Aug. 9, the Bulldogs hosted Nordonia and Hubbard in a tri-match for nine holes. Poland came out on top at 164, with Hubbard second at 200 and Nordonia third at 212. Scoring for Poland were Mancini and DiBenedetto at a 38; Bilas with a 43; and Sine at 45.

At the JFK Invitational on Aug. 10, Poland placed fourth in the field of 28 teams behind winner Massilon Jackson with a 310. Scoring for Poland included Mancini with a 76; DiBenedetto, 82; Hannon, 85; Sines, 86; and Bilas shot a 90.

In golf action at Mill Creek South, Poland took on NDCL and Hathaway Brown in nine holes and 18 holes. NDCL beat Poland, 168-170. Scoring for Poland were Mancini with a 40; Hannon, 42; Sines, 43; Bilas, 45; DiBenedetto, 45; and Jeswald, 58.

Poland won over Hathway Brown 336-418 for 18 holes. Scoring for Poland were Mancini, 77; Sines, 83; Bilas, 88; Hannon, 88; DiBendetto, 89; and Jeswald, 110.
