Local racer qualifies for World Finals

August 18, 2011
Special to the Town Crier
Doug Gbur, a lifelong resident of Austintown and a graduate of Fitch High School class of 1996, participated in his first IRHA Summit Pro Am series drag racing event on Aug. 7 at Pittsburg Raceway Park.

Gbur, with help from his wife of seven years Suni, won the Top Sportsman category and would go on to collect his Iron Man trophy after a weekend of hard racing. This major event win qualifies Gbur to participate in the World Finals this October in Virginia.

Gbur is the owner and driver of his Pontiac Trans Am and has been racing for six years at local events. After Gbur graduated high school he got his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at GMI Engineering and Management Institute in Flint, Mich.
