August 3, 2011
The Town Crier
Boardman Community Baseball's 11-year-old all stars beat Tallmadge, 3-2, Wednesday in the semifinal round of the Ohio state Little League tournament. The boys are 4-0 in the state tournament and 18-1 overall.

The winning pitcher was Bobby Toth, who ruled the mound for all six innings. Key hits in the win came off the bats of Mike Cunningham, Dominic Stilliana and Dominic Pecchia, Bobby Toth and Michael Melewski.

Tallmadge took an early lead scoring two runs in the first inning. While playing fierce defense, it took the locals until the fourth inning to answer the call, bringing in two runs of their own to tie the game.

Still tied at two in the bottom of the sixth, with two outs, Dante Beato hit a shot to right centerfield. With Sean Buck rounding third and the throw coming in, the Tallmadge catcher hit the dirt and Buck high-stepped over him to score the winning run.

The team sits at the top of the state bracket as the only undefeated team left in the tournament. They await the winner of the Tallmadge-Shelby game being played Thursday, Aug. 4.

The championship will be played at West Side Little League in Hamilton at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5.
