Canfield American Legion Post will hold its annual Memorial Day Service On the Green on Monday. The event will mark the 90th year the post has put on the event.
This year’s event will begin on the Village Green at 10 a.m. with a Memorial Day Service. The service will include music performed by the Canfield High School Band.
This year's guest speaker will be John Boccieri, former U>S. Representative from Ohio's 16th District and C-130 pilot with the 910th Airlift Wing in Vienna.
Following a ceremonial placing of the wreath on the Green, a parade will proceed down East Main Street to the Canfield Cemetery, for a second wreath laying and a 21 gun salute to all veterans buried in the cemetery. Following taps, the parade will return to the War Veteran Museum for a final segment at the Wall of Honor behind the museum.
At the wall, a new plaque will be dedicated
“It will honor veterans of our present war and those who gave their lives in past wars,” Lew Speece, American Legion Post 177 Commander said.
After the ceremony at the wall, the War Veteran Museum and barn will be open for tours, including the model railroad displays representing WWII and the Civil War.
In case of rain, the program will be held in the high school auditorium.
