Falcon girls win districts

Soaring Falcon Malkayla Martin shows that she can jump with the best of them after posting a 15-feet, 9.75-inch jump in Saturday’s district finals to finish in seventh. Her efforts helped the Lady Falcons take the championship.

Austintown Fitch High jumper Jay Jakovina clears the bar on his first attempt and ends up placing second in the men’s high jump at the district meet on Saturday. Fitch boys placed fourth in districts out of 16 teams.

Fitch Falcon Caitlyn Cominsky has a toss in the discus competition, but ends up fouling. Her earlier efforts helped the girls as they headed to the district championship on Saturday.

Fitch Falcon Jenna Yacovone prepare to battle Hardings Diamonn Hymes in the women’s 4x200-meter relay at Districts on Saturday. The Harding team proved tough and ended up taking the event with a time of 1:42.78 to Fitch’s 1:45.95, that left the Fitch girls in second place after beating out Canfield. Although the girls took a back seat to Harding in the event, when the overall scores came in, the Fitch girls earned 135 to beat out Harding’s 109 and take the championship.
