Podolsky has soccer in her blood that started when she was five. She played youth soccer at St. Christine School until she entered the fifth grade. He love for soccer kept her going for the next four years playing on an Austintown Falcons club team.
When she entered high school, she was a shoe-in for the soccer team, which she joined while maintaining her club soccer playing for a Canton United Club team. It kept her going almost year-round, playing the game she loves so much.
CHS head soccer coach Phil Simone said Podolsky has been a great player in a tough position. He said as a goalie, she was the first one people looked at when the ball hit the net.
Podolsky is a two year letter winner that is credited with helping the Cardinal team make regional finals in her junior year.
“She was also selected as the team defensive MVP in 2010,” Simone said.
In the past three years, Podolsky has played a big part in the team going 34-14-2.
She said she chose Mount Union for several good reasons.
“I like the campus, the coaches and teammates are nice people and it is close to home,” Podolsky said.
While at Mount Union, Podolsky said she will pursue either sports management or exercise science.
“I am not sure just yet,” she said.
She is sure of playing soccer though and is eager to take the next step in her athletic and academic career. On the athletic side, she has also earned two varsity track letters and as a sophomore earned all-conference honors as a member of the Lady Cardinals' 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams.
On the academic side at Canfield, she holds a 3.6 GPA, which her father said made her college choice a good one.
“I’m thrilled for my daughter,” said Dr. David Podolsky. “Mount Union looks like a good fit for her both athletically and academically.”
Podolsky was joined by her father, her mom Denise, and her brothers Michael and Alan, who are both Canfield graduates. Having her family attend her signing was special, but then it was a special day for another reason -- it was her birthday too.
Putting her name on the line, Canfield soccer goalie Jackie Podolsky signed with Mount Union University on May 12. She is pictured here with her proud parents Dr. David and Denise Podolsky.
