The Boardman boys track team finished runners-up May 13 at the 2011 Federal League Track and Field Championship. The Spartans finished half a point behind league champion Austintown Fitch (110.5-110). Boardman did finish second overall in the final league standings.
The Spartans opened the meet with a season best time in the 4x800 meter relay with the team of seniors Eddie Adu-Poku and Alex Scott, sophomore Sam Sheronovich, and freshmen Alan Burns with a time of 8:18 which was good enough for fourth place. The next event, the 110 meter hurdles, senior Clayvon Finch placed second in a time of 15.36 seconds and junior Allen Starkey was sixth in a time of 17.14 seconds. In the 100 meter dash, Spartan sophomore Nathan Jones took second in 11.27 seconds.
In the 1600 meter run, freshman Mark Hadley placed third with a career best time of 4:30. The Spartans were fifth in the 4x100 meter relay with the team of freshmen Brian Bodrick, juniors Darel Green and Michael Moxley, and Jones in a time of 45.11 seconds. Senior Trae Robinson finished second in the 400 meter run with a time of 49.88 seconds.
In the 300 meter hurdles, Finch finished fifth in 42.39 seconds with Moxley in seventh with a time of 43.26 seconds. In the 200 meter dash, Jones took first in 22.53 seconds while in the 3200 meter run Hadley set new BHS freshman record with a fourth place time of 9:56. The Spartans 4x200 meter relay team of freshman Ivan Adu-Poku, Bodrick, Moxley, and Jones took fourth in a time of 1:31.7.
In the 800 meter run, Eddie Adu-Poku was second overall with a time of 2:00. Also, the Spartan 4x400 meter relay team of Robinson, Moxley, Ivan Adu-Poku, and Jones took third in a time of 3:27.7.
In the field events, senior Luis Saloman was sixth with a throw of 46 feet and 1 inch and senior John Kuczek took eighth with a heave of 45 feet 9.75 inches.. Junior Brian Linsley placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 141 feet and 8 inches and junior Nick Lamb was seventh with a throw of 138 feet and 11 inches. In the high jump, senior Leandre Jackson finished second with a leap of 6 feet and 2 inches. While in the long jump Starkey took first with a leap of 21 feet and 5 inches.
Next up for the Spartans will be the 2011 District Championship Meet on Friday, May 20 at Austintown.
