Ohio Wesleyan University senior Lainey Kekic of Canfield has been named one of the North Coast Athletic Conference Players of the Week for the week of May 2, as announced by the NCAC.
Kekic, a member of the Ohio Wesleyan women's track & field team, was named Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week. Kekic won the NCAC heptathlon championship recently, scoring 4,147 points. Her point total also surpassed the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III championship meet to be held May 26 to 28 at Selby Field and the Gauthier Track. Kekic had or shared the meet's best effort in five of the seven events.
She recorded the meet's best efforts in the shot put at 30 feet, long jump at 16 feet 9-3/4 inches, and 800-meter run in 2:30.74. She cleared 4 feet 11-3/4 inches in the high jump, tying for the best effort of the meet, and her time of :26.08 in the 200-meter dash tied for the meet's fastest. Kekic's effort in the javelin at 86 feet, 1 inch was second-best, and she clocked a :17.50 in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing fifth.
