Boardman posted a 9-1 win over St. Thomas Aquinas at Cene Field in the late game on May 4. Boardman took an early 2-1 lead in the fourth inning and padded the win in the fifth inning when they scored seven more runs.
David DiBernardi went two-for-two with a double and two runs, Phil DiIanni was two-of-three with a triple, two runs and a RBI. Derek Pasquale also had two doubles, two RBI's and a run while Danny Popio hit a triple. The win moves Boardman to 10-4, (4-3 Federal League) and St. Thomas drops to 8-9.
In other action, Boardman dropped both Federal League games to the Jackson Polar Bears. The first game at Jackson saw the Spartans lose a heartbreaker 12-10 after coming back from a 7-1 deficit. Two days later in the second meeting at the Spartans home field, the Polar Bears came out on top 22-16.
In other action from the prior week, three runs in the first inning was all Ursuline could do as the Boardman guys dropped their Catholic foes 8-3 at Cene Park. Boardman’s Brad Smith got his first win of the season on the mound for the Spartans.
