It seems the hard work the kids have put in with the new coaches has paid off since it has been eight years since the Boardman Spartan baseball team has earned the right to have the No. 1 seed in the State Sectional Tournament. After the area coaches voted April 30, the Spartans came out on top.
Boardman took the top spot edging out the Howland Tigers who were number 2. The Spartans split a double header this past weekend with the Tigers losing 4-2 in the first game then coming back in game two 9-3. The seeding will see the Spartans take on the winner of the Warren Harding vs. East game to be played at Harding May 10. Harding was the No. 4 seed was East was No. 6.
As the No. 2 seed, Howland will take on the winner of the Fitch vs. Chaney game, also May 10, in Austintown. Fitch was seeded third and Chaney was fifth.
Boardman will play their contest at home on May 11, as will Howland, with the winner of each game advancing to the Sectional semifinals at Cene Park at 4:30 p.m. May 17. The Sectional finals with be May 18, also at Cene Park.
