Poland youth have been practicing all year round with coaching from Youngstown State University players during the holidays.
There are three team captains who the players pick after every tournament and are recognized as Big Dawgs. They must earn thier reward and it’s understood that victory can only be achieved by teamwork.
The Diamond Dawgs outscored their opponents 29-14 over the two-day, four-game event. The Diamond Dawg's pitching and defensive abilities were unsurpassed. Offensively they had seven out-of-the-park homeruns, one triple and several doubles which helped spearhead their dominance.
The team members are Daniel Klase, Tony Chiaro, Vincent Garayua, Marc DiGregorio, Michael Kluchar, Konnor Morse, Alex Wollet, William Aey, Michael Maillis, Talon Price, Padraig O'Shaughnessy, and Travis Jones.
The team mascot is a triceratops dinosaur with a three-horned face, symbolizing the three captains, or Big Dawgs, who are awarded with a huge chain that holds the Dawgs together. This beastly triceratops weighed 12 tons and is symbolized by the amount of love and support from family and community. The boys rescued their Mascot from the dumps and feel a certain attachment to this massive beast.
