Boys track goes 3-1 early in the season

The Boardman boys track team improved its 2011 record to 3-1 with a 73-64 victory over the North Canton Hoover Vikings on April 12 and a 102-35 win over Uniontown Lake on April 14.

The initial event saw the Spartans score in the 110 meter hurdles with senior Clayvon Finch taking first with a time of 15.4 seconds and junior Allen Starkey placing third in 16.2 seconds. Boardman won the 4x200 meter relay with the team of freshman Ivan Adu-Poku, junior Devin Campbell, junior Michael Moxley, and sophomore Nathan Jones in a time of 1:33.1.

In the 1600 meter run, senior Eddie Adu-Poku took second with a time of 4:39 and freshman Mark Hadley was third in 4:42. Senior Trae Robinson finished second in the 400 meter run with a time of 52.1 seconds.

In the 800 meter run, senior Alex Scott finished second in a time of 2:08, he was followed by Hadley in 2:09. Also, in the 200 meter run Jones finished first in a time of 22.5 seconds. The next event was the 3200 meter run, which was won by Eddie Adu-Poku in 10:18 with freshman Alan Burns taking third in 10:25.

In the field events, junior John Kuczek won the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 8 inches, senior Luis Salomon was second with a heave of 44 feet. Junior Brian Linsley placed first in the discus with a throw of 133 feet, 5 inches, junior Nick Lamb took second with a throw of 117 feet, 5 inches, and junior Mike Grantonic was third with a heave of 112 feet, 7 inches. In the long jump, junior Allen Starkey took second with a jump of 20 feet, 6.75 inches, while in the high jump senior Leandre Jackson took first with a leap of 5 feet, 10 inches with Starkey second at 5 feet, 8 inches.

The guys returned home to improve to 3-1 with a 102-35 victory over the Uniontown Lake Blue Streaks, April 14.

The Spartans opened the meet with a victory by seniors Eddie Adu-Poku, Corey Zell, sophomore Sam Sheronovich, and Burns with a time of 8:38 in the 4x800 meter relay. The next event, the 110 meter hurdles, Finch placed first in a time of 15.9 seconds and Starkey was second in 17.7 seconds. In the 100 meter dash, Spartan sophomore Nathan Jones placed first in 11.2 seconds, senior Nick Buonavolanta was second in 11.6 seconds and Ivan Adu-Poku was third with a time of 11.6 seconds as well.

In the 1600 meter run, Hadley took first with a time of 4:39, he was followed by senior Alex Scott in second place in a time of 4:55. The Spartans won the 4x100 meter relay with the team of Jones, Ivan Adu-Poku, Buonavolanta, and freshman Brian Bodrick in a time of 44.9 seconds. Senior Harry Wolfe placed first in the 400 meter run with a time of 54.5 seconds.

In the 300 meter hurdles, junior Michael Moxley finished second with a time of 43.1 seconds and Finch placed third with a time of 43.7 seconds. The 800 meter run was won by Eddie Adu-Poku in a time of 2:03, while Burns was third in 2:10. The 200 meter dash was won by Robinson in 22.6 seconds with Jones second in 23.7, and Ivan Adu-Poku third with a time of 23.7 seconds as well. The next event was the 3200 meter run which was won by Hadley in 10:40, freshman Justin Maroni placed second in 10:59, while Scott was third with a time of 11:01. The 4x400 meter relay team of Eddie Adu-Poku, Wolfe, Moxley, and Burns finished first with a time of 3:42.

In the field events, Kuczek finished second in the shot put with a throw of 47 feet 4.25 inches. Linsley won the discus with a throw of 131 feet and 4 inches and Lamb placed second with a throw of 129 feet and 11 inches. Starkey finished second in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet 10.5 inches with Robinson third with a jump of 17 feet 4.5 inches. Jackson finished first in the high jump at 5 feet 8 inches with Starkey second at the same height. Finally, in the pole vault, Zell was third with a vault of 8 feet 6 inches.
