The rival Boardman freshman softball team and the Cardinal Mooney junior varsity team battled it on the diamond April 15. Mooney started strong sending seven girls to the plate and scoring three runs to take an early 3-0 lead. Mooney’s pitcher, Jen Komara, started out fast striking out five of the first seven battles she faced.
Boardman then staged a comeback and scored seven runs in the third inning to take an 8-3 lead. After scoring two runs in the fourth, Boardman finished the game scoring six runs in the fifth inning, winning 15-3.
The freshmen team improved their record to 3-0; all three games have been stopped in the fifth inning invoking the ten-run mercy rule. On the year, they have scored 53 runs while allowing only 14 runs.
