Cards take top honors in Cope Invitational

The Canfield Cardinals girls track team brought home first place honors in the Cope Invitational on Friday, April 8. Canfield posted a 107 to second place Massillon Perry’s 95, Austintown’s 93 and Warren Harding’s 61.

In the 4x800 relay: first place with a time of 10:07.73 was the relay team of Emma Lunne, Nicole Tiberio, Jen Love, and Jillian Smith. In the 1600 run, first place in 5:32.40 was Lunne. First place in high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 4 inches was Hartsough. In the 100 dash, second place in 13.29 and also in the 200 sash in 27.78 was Emily Gleichert. In the 100 dash, third place in 13.37 and in the 200 dash fourth place at 27.97 was Katie Richter.

Third place in shot put at 35 feet, 1.5 inches and discus fourth place at 111 feet, 11 inches was Maggie Bresnahan. Others earning points were Kayla Barko, Ellie Pouliot, Stephanie Carrocce, Nicole Lamagna, Devin Foley, Marla Marucci, and Kaylee Kilbert.

On April 5, Canfield hosted a triangular meet that ended with Canfield on top with 117 points followed by Struthers at 37 and Hubbard with 10.

In the 4x800 relay, Canfield's Marucci, Kilbert, Love and Smith ran in 10:32.1. Sara Martinko finished the 100 hurdles in 17.7, while Gleichert finished the 100 dash in 13.2.

In the 4x200 relay, with a time of 1:51.8, was Nicole Lamagna, Devin Foley, Richter, Gleichert. In the 1600 run, Love finished in 5:55.1 and the 4x100 relay team of Lamagna, Stephanie Carrocce, Richter, Gleichert finished in 52.5. Foley paced at 1:02.9 in the 100 dash and Megan Martinko finished at 52.2 in the 300 hurdles. In the 800 run, Smith finished in 2:27.8. In the 200 dash, Foley ended with 27.8.

The 4x400 relay team of Tiberio, Foley, Marucci and Smith finished in 4:26.0. In field events, Maggie Bresnahan threw shot put 35 feet, 11 inches; discus toss by Bresnahan was 102 feet, 7 inches; Kayla Barko flew 13 feet, 6 inches in long jump; Hartsough high jumped 5 feet, 1 inch.

The boys also took first scoring 70 to Struthers’ 56 and Hubbard’s 38. Scorers for the Cards included the following: 4x800 Relay, 9:03.6 (Jeremy Hammond, Nick Tocicki, Ben Gleichert, Jon Hutnyan); 110 Hurdles: Tyler Mettille 15.4; 4x200 Relay 1:38.0 (Treavor English, Rayshawn Clark, Bryan Sfara, Steven Hamilton); 1600 Run: Hutnyan 4:52.6; 300 Hurdles-Mettille 44.2; 800 Run-Hutnyan 2:07.6; 3200 Run-Rollin Bresson 11:01.8; 4x400 Relay 3:40.5 (English, Gleichert, Fidel Syrianoudis, Hamilton); and long jump: Mettille, 18 feet 5.5 inches.
