Schools not only concern in levy issue

March 30, 2011
The Town Crier
Dear EDITOR:

I am writing in response to a letter regarding the Canfield Schools and the upcoming levy published in your March 17 edition. I respect the writer’s zeal in support of this levy but would like to point out that schools are not always the deciding factor on whether or not to move to a particular community. Many believe the reputation of safety services, zoning enforcement, walkability, ease of commute and recreational opportunities precede schools as deciding factors. Many chose to live within the city of Canfield for these reasons and pay an income tax in addition to the real estate tax and are understandably leery about adding to their current financial commitment during what is always reported as "questionable economic times."
