Another championship for Boardman Maroon

The Boardman Maroon sixth-grade boys basketball team won the 32nd Annual Harry M. Lay Jackson-Milton Basketball Tournament. The team defeated Austintown in the championship game 47-23. This is the second consecutive year the Spartans have won this tournament. Special Academic Awards were given to Mark Smaldino and Dante Colaluca for earning straight A's in fifth and sixth grade. Smaldino was also recognized for most assists in the tournament. Leading the Spartans was Lynn Bowden with a double-double, 21 points and 11 rebounds. Jared Jay and Anthony Davanzo contributed seven and six points respectively. Gino Guerrieri, Dom Eorio and J.R. Ryan contributed to outstanding defense, holding the Falcons to only three points in the third quarter. The team includes, front row, Gino Guerrieri, Mark Smaldino, Dom Eorio and Dante Colaluca; and back row, coach John Ryan, Lynn Bowden, Anthony Davanzo, J.R.
