The Town Crier
Sharon Hawkins, 63, formerly of Poland, passed away in Rehoboth, Del., on Feb. 11, 2011, from breast cancer.

Born in Chester, Pa., on March 17, 1947, the daughter of the late Gerard and Helen (Fitzler) Vautrin, Sharon was a 1965 graduate of John Dickinson High School in Wilmington, Del., and received her degree in education at the University of Delaware.

Sharon taught at the Heritage Elementary School in Wilmington, Del., and was the director of a La Petite Academy preschool in Fairfax, Va. She owned the Nibble Nook gourmet food shop in Poland, where she also was a florist, caterer and crafts artist, and served as a deacon at Poland Presbyterian Church.

Sharon was a loving and devoted wife, mother and memere who loved being with her family and friends. She had a wonderful smile and laugh that lit up a room and a twinkle in her eye that made everyone feel special. She was a great cook who loved reading, laughing, traveling and playing games. Sharon had a very generous heart and volunteered at the Lewes New Life Thrift Shop, Cape Henlopen Food Basket, Read Aloud and other mentoring programs at Rehoboth Elementary School, was a board member of Lewes-Rehoboth Association of Churches for five years, and helped organize and coach a children’s soccer league in Poland.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 42 years, John Hawkins; her son, John Hawkins III and his wife Julie of Philadelphia; her daughter, Jennifer Morrison and her husband Christopher of Scituate, Mass.; her grandchildren, Cody and Tyler Morrison and Calista and Samantha Hawkins; and her sister Carol Vautrin of Wilmington, Del.

A celebration of her life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 301 King Charles Ave., in Rehoboth Beach, Del.

Please remember Sharon by reading to a child, giving flowers to a friend, hugging a stranger, giving blood, loving each other unconditionally, and supporting charitable organizations like the Delaware Hospice at 100 Patriots Way, Milford, Del. 19963 or the Cape Henlopen Food Basket, at P.O.Box 67, Nassau, Del. 19969.
