Oklahoma head football coach Bob Stoops and former Texas Tech head football coach Mike Leach are the featured speakers at 26th Annual Bob Dove Coaches Clinic hosted by Youngstown State on Saturday, Feb. 19.
Coaches who are interested in attending should contact the YSU Football Office at (330) 941-1342 or email secretary Lynn Cadle at firstname.lastname@example.org. The cost is $50 per coach, however, staffs of seven or more, qualify for a special rate. The fee includes lunch and parking for the event, which will be held in YSU’s Kilcawley Center. Registration is at 9 a.m. with the clinic beginning at 10 a.m.
Stoops, who is coming off a 12-2 campaign in which the Sooners won the Big 12 title and won the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, is a Youngstown native and graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School. In his 12 seasons with the program, he has recorded an impressive 129-31 mark while guiding the Sooners to a National Championship in 2000.
Leach was the Red Raiders’ head coach from 2000-09 posting an 84-43 overall record. His best season was in 2008 when Texas Tech posted an 11-2 mark, including a last-second victory over Texas in Lubbock.
YSU coach Eric Wolford and the entire Penguins coaching staff will assist with the clinic with offensive coordinator Shane Montgomery and assistant head coach/defensive line coach Tom Sims holding hour-long sessions. High school coaches who are holding sessions during the clinic are Jeff Durbin (Uniontown Lake), Dan Reardon (Ursuline) and Mark Soboleski (Erie McDowell).
