Poland girls take tri-meet at YSU pool

The Poland Seminary High School girls and boys swim team hosted a tri-meet at YSU’s Beeghly Natatorium on Jan. 25, against Alliance and Cardinal Mooney.

The Poland girls team overtook Alliance and Mooney with a total score of 136. Alliance girls totaled 91, and Mooney, 46. For the boys teams, Alliance dominated the meet, bringing in a total score of 124, outscoring Mooney (59) and Poland (55).

For the Poland girls, Becca Stewart took first place in both of her individual events, being first to the wall in the 200 free with a time of 2:08.73. She also won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:41.80. Stewart’s time in the 500 free garnered a new record for Poland Seminary High School for this event. Also placing first place in individual events were Poland Senior Captain, Elisa Hurtuk, out-swimming her competition in the backstroke with a time 1:12.62. She was joined by Chloe Queen, adding first place points in her 100 fly performance, finishing in 1:33.95. Also placing first in her individual event was Sophomore Jaci Mulally, touching the wall first in the 100 free with a time of 1:10.40.

Adding critical second place points in both of her events was Junior Kayleigh Lavorini, completing the 200 IM in 2:32.42 and the 100 breast with a finish time of 1:20.90. Other second place finishes were provided by Mulally (50 free, 30.59), Mirhanda Henneman (200 free, 2:34.72), Courtney Lilak (100 back, 1:31.92). Third place points were contributed by Celia Melillo (200 IM, 2:57.55), and Madeleine Landry (500 free, 8:40.72). Bringing in fourth place points was Freashman Sarah Comstock (100 breast, 1:25.49).

The Poland girls performed well in relay events. The Medley Relay foursome of Mulally (back), Comstock (breast), Melillo (fly) and Hurtuk (free) garnered first place points with a finish time of 2:21.47. They also won the 400 free relay, with Henneman. Hurtuk, Stewart and Lavorini finishing with a time of 4:28.54. In the 200 Free Relay, Melillo, Mulally, Stewart and Henneman took second place with a time of 2:03.39.

In the diving competition, sole Bulldog diver, Celia Mellilo scored 203.25.

For the boys, taking first place in both individual events was Senior Captain Ian Harker, winning the 200 free with a time of 2:05.40, and placing first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:09.12. Matt Misko won the 200 IM with a time of 2:39.39.

Misko also placed third in the 100 back, touching the wall at 1:15.01. Sam Cowles placed third in the 500 free with a time of 6:51.92. Adding fourth placed points was Matt Robich in both the 50 free (27.83) and 100 free (1:02.65).

The Poland boys placed third in both the 200 Medley and 200 Free Relays. The team of Robich (back), Misko (breast), Cowles (fly) and Jake Amon (free) finished second with a time of 2:18.57. In the 200 Free, Amon, Kyle Kirin, Cowles and Robich finshed with a time of 2:03.66.
