Falcon grapplers just getting warmed up

The Fitch Falcon wrestling team is just getting warmed up for the 2010-11 season. With two undefeated wrestlers, coach Brett Powell is expecting good things this year.

“We’ve got a lot of young guys and just a few seniors,” Powell said. “Most are sophomores or juniors, but we know the future is bright for these guys.”

As a team, the Falcon grapplers are showing a 2-4 record to date. They are 0-1 in the Federal League and 1-1 in the Eastern Ohio Wrestling League.

Powell and coaches Brian Weidenthal and John Burd are presently working hard to get the team ready for the Wheeling Park Duals Tournament over Christmas break. The event will feature 40 teams competing for top billing in the two-day event.

“It’s a great event for the team,” Powell said. “It’s good for team building as well as individuals. You have to fight your way to the top as a team.”

For the rest of the season, Powell said, “I think we will progress through the season.”

He expects improvement, but did say there were several wrestlers to watch. Boasting a 6-0 record for the season so far are junior Jamie Jameson and sophomore Antoine Davis. Falling in for the top five are freshman Camran Rezapourian at 3-0, junior Lennie McGeachy at 5-1 and junior Don Ferree at 4-2.
