Austintown Sports Notes

• Fitch Boys Soccer

The Austintown boys soccer team fell to Lake 1-2 last week. The Fitch guys were leading 1-0 at the half, but Lake came on strong in the second half and took a come-from-behind lead at the game’s end. Scoring Fitch’s lone point was Keanu Shelton with an assist from Mike Shaffer. Chris Platton made seven saves in the game. The JV team pulled off the win over Lake with a score of 1-0.

Coming off the Lake game, the guys defeated McKinley 5-0 and then went into the team’s senior day game against Liberty where the guys made a comeback by beating the Leopards 6-0. Shelton again had an outstanding game with two goals and three assists. Trevor Yacovone, Nate Bowlen, Shaffer, and Brent Moyer each added a goal for the win. The team is now 7-4-1.

• Fitch Volleyball

Fitch volleyball team had a see-saw battle with GlenOak last week, running into game five to settle the tie. The matches in order included 25-13, 21-25, 25-22, 17-25, and the tie-breaker 15-7 to send the Austintown girls to a 6-10 overall record and 2-7 in the league.
