•Fitch Boys Soccer

Fitch and Hoover varsity boys soccer team played to a 0-0 tie in last week’s Federal League match at Falcon Stadium. The game was even as both teams had possible goal scoring opportunities. Fitch's goalies Chris Platton, who had six saves, and Nick Sheely, with five saves, kept the shutout for the Falcons, as Hoover's Ian Murphy had eight saves to keep level pegging.

The Fitch boys team won 2-1 on Saturday at Reilly Stadium in Salem. The score was 1-0 Fitch at halftime. Nate Bowlen and Mike Shaffer each put one on the board for the win with assist from Trevor Yacovone. Chris Platton made five saves towards the win.

This Saturday, the boys will face Liberty. The game will feature the Fitch boys soccer Senior Day.

• Fitch Volleyball

The Fitch varsity volleyball team fell to Hoover last week by a three-game score of 19-25, 6-25, and 20-25. Fitch’s leading servers were Amanda Callahan and Britney Weidenthal with two aces; leading attacker fell to Kacie Roche with 10 attempts and five kills; leading setter went to Britney Weidenthal with eight attempts and eight assists; leading defender was Amanda Callahan with 15 serve receptions and five digs; and leading blocker went to Julie Martinelli with two blocks.

On Thursday, the girls took on Lake and won three of four games to take the win. The games were 26-24, 27-25, 21-25, and 25-13. Leading server was Emily Pabst with 10 points and three aces. Roche posted 23 attempts and 17 kills; Weidenthal had 30 attempts and 29 assists; Callahan led the defense with 18 serve receptions and 19 digs; and Martinelli recorded three blocks.

Wrapping up last week, the girls competed in the Lakeside Tournament. They started by winning over St. John and Paul, 25-23 and 26-24. Pabst was top server with six aces; Roche was top hitter with seven kills; Callahan led the defense with nine digs ; and Martinelli led in blocks with three.

The second competitor was Edgewood, who downed the Falcon girls 25-21, 25-16, and 25-18. It was a tough loss, but third times a charm as the Lady falcons took on Hathaway Brown and posted a win of 25-19 and 25-7. Top server was Tori Wise with five aces; Roche was top hitter with six kills; Callahan was top defender with nine digs; and Alexa Lynn was top blocker with two.

• Fitch Girls Tennis

The Fitch girls tennis team moved to 6-7, 3-3 in league play, after last week’s meet with Lake that ended in a 3-1 decision. In singles action, Ali Macioge won her match 6-0 and 6-1; Sarah Ragan got the win with sets of 7-6, 4-6, and 3-3; and Angela Murphy took a two setter 6-3, 6-3. Ragan’s match was called due to darkness and was not counted in the final score. In doubles action, the team of Nikki Wenick and Kellie Wenick won their sets 6-0, 6-1. The team of Caitlin Sheridan and Victoria Phelps took the decision after sets of 6-3,4-6, and a tie breaker of 6-2.

On Wednesday, the girls straveled to Struthers to take on the Wildcat girls. Fitch came out on top 3-2. Singles matches included Macioge with sets of 7-5, 1-6, 1-6; Ragan with 6-4, 3-6, and 7-5 to take the only win in singles; and Murphy with sets of 0-6 and 0-6. Doubles action was all Austintown with the Wenick girls posting sets of 6-4, 6-3; and the team of Phleps/Sheridan staarting out bad with a set of 0-6, then coming back with sets of 6-1 and 6-4. The girls are in Federal League Tournament action this week.
