Boys soccer goes 1-1-1; girls defeats rivals

The Poland boys soccer team opened up its season with three home games against Salem, Boardman, and Canfield. They ended up with a win against Salem, a tie with Boardman, and a loss to Canfield.

On Aug. 24, they opened up their season with a 3-0 win against Salem. Dan Hunt scored two goals with teammate Kevin Krumpak bringing in one. Drew Wagner, Hunt and Krumpak had assists. Adam Robertson and Alex Magni combined for three saves and Kenny Saltsman for Salem had 14 saves. Poland had 17 shots on goals, and Salem had three. The JV team also won defeating Salem JV, 6-0.

Poland and Boardman faced off Aug. 31 and played to a no-score tie. In that game, Robertson and Magni had two saves, and Anthony Calautti had eight saves. Poland had eight shots on goal, and Boardman had two. The Poland JV fell to Boardman, 2-1.

Last Thursday, rival Canfield took the win, 3-0. Magni had seven saves for Poland and Canfield goalkeeper Mike Thomas had three saves. P.J. Stickle for Canfield had three goals. Poland had three shots on goals, and Canfield had 10. The JV team also fell to Canfield by a close 3-2 final.

The Poland girls soccer team took on Canfield last week and walked away with a 2-1 win. Poland's goalie Abby Frank had five saves and goals were recorded from Kelsey Malenic and Rachel Robertson. In JV action, Poland fell to Canfield 3-0.
