Poland golfers go 7-1 on season

The Poland Lady Bulldogs golf team now boasts a season record of 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the AAC White Division.


The recent match earlier this week saw the Poland girls take down Howland 164-207 at Mill Creek. Scoring for Poland was junior Maria Mancini at 31, setting a new school record. Aiding in the win were senior Allison Mitzel with a 37, and freshman Melinda Hannon, junior Giana DiBenedetto, and newcomer Christine Bilas, each with a 48. Junior Natalie Rivello posted a 50.


Prior to the Howland match, the girls defeated rival Canfield at Mill Creek South by a score of 157 to 171.


Scoring for Poland were Mitzel with a 38, Mancini with a 36, Bilas at 41, and DiBenedetto who shot a 42 after seeing limited action last year. Other girls in the match include Hannon, who shot a 49 and Rivello who recorded a 53.


In previous action, Poland went 164 to 207 at Mill Creek to beat the Howland Tigers. Scoring for Poland were Mancini at a 31 to set a new school record, Mitzel with a  37, and Hannon, DiBenedetto, and Bilas who each posted a 48. Natalie Rivello also competed and posted a 50.


At the meet with Niles at the Links at Walnut Run, Poland put 164 on the board to Niles’ 195. Scoring for Poland was Mancini at 38, Mitzel at 40, DiBenedetto at 41, and Bilas with a 45.


In the Midwest Invitational at Skyland Pine, Poland girls shot a 345 for the 18 Hole event. Mancini shot a 77 and took the eighth position on the All Tournament Team.


Mitzel put up an 80, DiBenedtto shot a 94, and Bilas put up a 94.
