Dale Gabor, an athletic administrator at Cleveland St. Ignatius High School for 25 years and a 2010 inductee into the Northeast District Athletic Administrators Hall of Fame, has been appointed by the Ohio High School Athletic Association to serve as the association’s administrator for the sports of cross country, and track and field, OHSAA Commissioner Dr. Dan Ross has announced.
Gabor, who last year was appointed the OHSAA’s director of track and field officiating, will oversee the sport regulations and tournament regulations for those two sports in addition to serving as head rules interpreter. He will also assist in managing the state tournaments in those two sports.
From 1983 to 2008, Gabor oversaw the St. Ignatius athletic department that won a total of 20 state championships and expanded many of its facilities. During that time, he served for 11 years on the OHSAA’s Northeast District Athletic Board and was a member of the OHSAA Board of Directors during the 2007-08 school year. Gabor, who earned three degrees from John Carroll University in Cleveland, is a lifetime member of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and is also an instructor in the OHSAA’s Fundamentals of Coaching program.
With Gabor’s appointment, the OHSAA now has two non-current staff members who are sport administrators. Former OHSAA assistant commissioner John Dickerson, who retired in 2008, is the OHSAA’s administrator for golf, a sport that he oversaw for 14 years while at the OHSAA.
