In a disappointing defeat Tuesday, the Poland Community Baseball softball team, playing in the Little League Softball World Series as the U.S. Central champs, lost to the Southeast team, 1-0.
The lone run of the game came early when, in the first inning, Southeast’s Sierra Stella walked then advanced on a wild pitch from Poland’s top dog, Aleah Hughes. After a fly-out and a ground out, Stella crossed the plate following a ball that got by catcher Daniella Rutana.
Following that run, both teams stalled for the remainder of the game, with Poland unable to even register a hit until the bottom of the fourth when a triple from Allyson Deemer put the promised land in sight. A ground out and a strikeout left Deemer stranded.
Everyone’s bats were silenced at that point, leaving the local girls at 3-2 in the Series and out of contention for the title.
They faced Oregon District 4 at noon Wednesday.
