Poland girls drop game in World Series

August 16, 2010

The Poland Community Little League softball team, playing as the U.S. Central champs, lost their latest game in their bid to win the Little League Softball World Series. They are now 2-1 in the series.

In the Sunday game against the West champions from Burbank, Calif., the girls endured a heartbreaking 1-0 loss with Aleah Hughes taking the loss on the mound. Allyson Deemer pitched one inning in relief.

An error and a passed ball following a West single in the bottom of the third sealed the deal for the local girls, playing in Portland, Ore. That one bad inning was not indicative of Poland's skill for the day. Beating out West's bats, Central posted five hits to West's one, showing that solid pitching wasn't the problem on Sunday. Abigail Masluk led the team with two hits, with Deemer, Claire Testa and Danielle Rutana posted one hit each.
