Road Runners prepare for busy August

August 12, 2010
Special to the Town Crier

The Panerathon 10K has been selected as the Youngstown Road Runners Club 10K Championship Race. Members of the YRRC can compete for the ‘Club’ 10K Championship. The Panerathon has also been selected as the Ohio Road Runners Club of America 10K Championship Race with special awards to the Ohio overall winner, masters winner and grand masters winner both female and male.

The Panerathon is to be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 29 at the Covelli Centre in downtown Youngstown. There will be a family party to follow the races. The two-mile race/walk will follow the start of the 10K by five minutes. These races benefit the new Joanie Abdu Breast Cancer Hospital to be built in Youngstown at the St. Elizabeth Hospital Campus.

The ‘Club’ Championship Series will take place in August with a 5K cross country race to be held on August 16 at the Boardman High School cross country course. The 5K Cross Country Championship race will be held at 7 p.m. Runners are invited to come out and volunteer for the YRRC/Second Sole Pre Season Classic for high school and middle school runners and then run the championship race. These races benefit the YRRC Scholarship Endowment to Youngstown State University.

The 5K ‘Club’ Championship Race will be held at the Piston’s Place in Hermitage, Pa., on Aug. 21.

Proceeds from this event will help support the Disabled American Veterans.

Applications for all three races can be downloaded from the YRRC’s webpage: All of the 'Club' Championship races are open to everyone. Only club members can win the club awards.
