Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 3, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Canfield for Fred Barkhurst, who passed away June 24 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

He was born March 20, 1924 in Dillonvale, a son of the late Fred and Mary (Gary) Barkhurst.

Fred was a United States Army veteran, serving in France during World War II. He retired after 37 years of service at General Motors Lordstown, where he was hired as the first tool and die welder. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and was active in Local #1714 UAW Retirees. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening, especially his riding mower. Most of all, Fred loved spending time with his family.

Fred is survived by his wife, the former Frances Bonsignore, whom he married Nov. 3, 1951; one daughter, Barbara (Charles) Royer of Canfield; two grandchildren, Rebecca Royer and Nicholas Royer; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Fred is preceded in death by three sisters, Wilda Deku, Frieda Esposito and Eva Johnson, and three brothers, James, Ernie and Ellis Barkhurst.

Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. July 3 prior to services at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel. Family and friends may view this obituary and send condolences at
