Downies to celebrate 60 years of marriage

William E. and Marjorie G. Downie of Poland will celebrate 60 years of marriage July 3 during an afternoon reception at their residence in Poland. The event, hosted by their children and spouses, is by invitation only.

William and his wife, the former Marjorie G. Thomas, were wed on June 17, 1950 at St. Patrick's Church in Youngstown. They are currently members of Holy Family Church Poland.  

William was president of the W.E. Downie Company, Inc. until his retirement in 1989. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1951 with a bachelor of engineering. He is a member of the Boardman Lions Club, Youngstown Shrine Club, and the Poland Masonic Lodge. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941-1946.

Marjorie was employed in the office/lab of Dr. W.S. Curtis of Youngstown and later became vice president of W.E. Downie Company, Inc. She graduated from Youngstown College in 1946 with a bachelor of arts and did her post-graduate work at Western Reserve University. She is affiliated with the Friends of the Poland Library and the Youngstown Chapter of the Embroiderer's Guild of America.

William and Marjorie are the parents of William (Jill) of Youngstown, Brian (Mary) of Washington, D.C., Bruce (Carolyn) of Chagrin Falls, Brad (Sue) of Boardman, Blair (Darcy) of Troy, N.Y., and Barth (Judy) of Tiffin. They have 16 grandchildren and twin great-granddaughters.
